THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING
It is not very difficult to trace back to the time before biological life, man and animals existed, because our world, however disfigured and defaced it is by comparison, is identical with that time. There is, in fact, a correlation and a concurrence with the world of 2018, and the world when biological life emerged to live on the planet earth. That is why it is possible to trace backwards from what is visible and known by man today to what is consistent with biological life in all its variable forms and features when everything began, and also what preceded it.
It is also possible to read the mind of God as he created the universe because everything is visible to our eyes and reason. No one was there when God said ‘Let there be light,’ and so it is impossible to know all the details of how he did this. Such questions need not arise because more importantly we know what God did and the evidence is before our eyes. It is visible and unmistakable whether we are a scientist, a schoolboy or schoolgirl.
GOD’S PURPOSE IN THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING
God’s purpose in all that preceded the origin of the species called man, (meaning male and female), was to create beings made in his own image, to know and understand God, love him and each other, and to live for ever. Before that could actually take place there had to be a world like ours for mankind to live in, not identical with our fallen world in which everything dies, but a good world where things do not die, and where things that are used are replenished.
We know that light, heat, water, earth and air, are needed for life to exist and all those chemical compounds like H20, (water) NaC1, (sodium Chloride) O (Oxygen) and so on. The actual chemistry of life is not known. What made man a living being is nowhere found in science text books. This is a mystery known only to God. But by working backwards to before man appeared on earth we can however, trace the way God prepared the planet earth for man’s life because he has revealed this to us in the Holy Scriptures.
GOD’S CREATION: THE PRIMORDIAL FIRST DAY
The primordial first day was prefaced by the words: God said, ‘Let there be light and there was light.’ And God saw that the light was good and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day and the darkness he called Night. God separated the darkness from the light, a division that the writer of Genesis mistook for evening and morning on earth. It was a simple mistake to make. God revealed to him that he divided or separated the light from the darkness and the writer paraphrased this after every day of God’s creation with the words ‘and the evening and the morning were the first day, second day, third day and so on’.
It has taken thousands of years for scientists to understand how night and day in our universe occurs, even though the facts are stated on the forth day of God’s creation. It is not surprising therefore that the writer of the beginning of everything thought that the division of light and darkness meant ‘evening and morning’ in his time.
You will notice that this first day had no time. Light was called Day and darkness was called night. Day and night were names not periods of time. And light and darkness were two distinct opposites with two distinct sources, the one black space and the other light. The earth was created in space which, as it is now, a black darkness. Earth was a gaseous watery empty void, without form or features. At this stage in the earth’s creation there was no twenty four hour clock, no sun, moon or stars. We are beyond time in God’s timeless infinity. In our time, it might have been, a million, or a billion years, or, it might have been a single twenty four hour day. Everything is possible to God. The reference to ‘evening and the morning were the first Day,’ was not the 24 hour day in our time but in God’s time. As Saint Peter said, ‘one day is with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.‘
On this first day God’s science created the beginning of everything in mind and matter. The very first embryonic earth was without form or life. We might conjecture that it was just a gaseous, watery mass of particles. According to the philosopher Emmanuel Kant (who followed Newton’s laws of motion), primordial matter was evenly distributed in the shape of small and cold particles. Due to gravitational attraction between them, they were pulled towards one another. This resulted in a collision which increased their temperature and produced angular velocity. The temperature and the speed began to emit light. Due to angular velocity, centrifugal increased so much that rings began to separate from the gaseous mass. This gaseous mass contained hydrogen and oxygen, H20, which forms the most prevalent substance on earth and the only substance on earth that has a gaseous, liquid and solid form. A man’s body is made of 60% water. It is not coincidental that the beginning of God’s creation contains the elemental earth and the elemental man, light, water, oxygen and heat.
SPIRIT AND MIND
Over this mass of water it is said that the Spirit of God moved, like a potter moving his hands over a formless piece of clay ready to give the clay a form and a face, the Spirit and mind of God began to form the basic elements of life, water, light and heat. The Spirit and mind of God was there at the very beginning and had to be there for the world to be sensible, intelligent and purposeful. Everything we see in our present world is intelligent and purposeful, now as in earth’s embryonic form.
God then said, ‘Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.’ So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And so it was. God called the dome sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.’
This geometrical figure represents the expanse of space between earth and sky. But not an empty space for where there was no sky, there was sky, and where there was no water above the earth there were clouds of rain, for as you already know rain is collected in the sky from the evaporation of the sea. The dome was not empty space either for the effect of light on water turned the water into gases as it still does. The gases are hydrogen and oxygen split from water in measurable amounts that make life possible.
At this time in the writers life everybody believed the earth was flat and this belief continued until the 17th century in our time. But this geometrical figure surprisingly shows us that the earth was not flat but a spherical globe in space. The dome sounds like a building in space or sky. This is just as visible now as it was then. Where would the dome begin in the sky and where would it end?
Let us take a boat and go out to sea until we can see no land. There is the dome! The sky dips down to the north, south, east and west horizon because the dome has its circumference and its rim on the horizon and never ceases to be a dome either on land or sea because the horizon never disappears and the more we approach it the more it recedes. So the principle of shape becomes clear. The earth is a sphere in the sky and the sky is a dome encircling the earth’s sphere. God’s creation is intelligent and rational.
SEA AND LAND
Then God said, ‘Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.’
In today’s world the sea surrounds continents and islands and not only contains water but salts, sodium chloride, calcium, magnesium and potassium, enabling marine life large and small, minute and microscopic, to survive, and reproduce, as well as plants that support marine life. The weight of sea water, which varies according to temperature, evaporation and depth is approximately 1026 kg/m3. Compared with fresh water which is 1000 kilograms a cubic meter, sea water is 1.26 times greater and the deeper the sea water, the greater the weight becomes, greater than the land which covers it, which is why the dry land appeared from beneath the waters. God then called the dry land earth and the waters he called seas.
Did you know that 70% of the earth surface is covered by water and 70% of the air we breath comes from the sea. 60-70% of the human body is also water with a salinity much less than sea water. (aprox 0.9 %) As at the very beginning of creation, according to Genesis 1:1 water was the prime source of everything that God created, and earth came from the seas and absolutely depends on the seas. Our scientific knowledge of this today underpins the place of water in God’s account of his creation.
GRASS HERBS AND TREES
Dry land or earth came from the sea. As the waters contracted and earth rose out of the sea, so the primordial earth was ready to grow grass, herbs and trees on. And so God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit seeds after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.’ These elemental grasses and herbs, are the main source of food for cattle, lambs horses, cows, sheep, goats, bison, buffalo, deer, elk, wildebeest, zebras, kangaroos and almost countless herbaceous creatures. Except in deserts and glaciers grass will grow anywhere on earth and because grass has seed in itself it will continue to cover the earth year after year. Unlike grass, fruit trees take a long time to grow and only bear fruit after eight or nine years. Trees also have seed in themselves and are created to be what they are after their kind, distinct species that are the same now as at the time when they were created. God put the time span of each grass, herb and tree in its seed, and also the kind of grass, herb or tree it was. Grass and herb seeds need good soil to grow and keep on growing which is why they need fertilizer to enrich the earth. This would come later from animals. Without fertilizer the trees would also cease to be healthy and would not produce good fruit. These are facts every farmer and gardener knows today and this was how God nurtured and soil as we do now. Animals are the chief source of manure to get the best results from vegetables and plants, herbs and trees.
God put time into everything. He put time into planets. He made the earth rotate on its axis and orbit the sun, thus creating night and day and the seasons of the year. We set our clocks by the precise time the earth rotates as it faces the sun and stars. And he put this time, not just in the face of a watch but in our minds, our memories, our awareness of the past, present and future. Time was and is God’s blueprint of all that he has made. He put time in plants and trees, in the moon and tides. The first world became like this one. It had a sense of time and duration.
The meaning of time is duration from one day to the next and one year to the next but the time we have today, in 2018, does not last. All biological life perishes whether man or beast, whether planets or stars. Mortality is a fact of life. It is inconceivable that this was in God’s mind when he made everything good. Why would God give us a beautiful world to live in and then take it away? The answer, according to Genesis, is that God made man in his own image, holy and good, to live for ever. Our first parents had no fear of death because no one died of natural causes, or violence or disease. Why is this everywhere in our world? The answer to this question is in man’s fall from grace, or put in other words, his disgraceful, selfish, and possessive love of money and power.
THE ORIGIN OF TIME
On day four God said, ‘Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.’ And it was so. God made the two great lights, the greater to rule the day and the lesser to rule the night, and the stars.’ (Genesis 1: 14-15) What God created on day four is before our eyes. We can see the sun, the moon and on very clear nights some of the planets and stars. We call it the universe. The bible account has no flaws in it. Nevertheless, understanding what God actually did on Day four, - the details so to speak, - is quite another question. This question arises because of our lack of knowledge relative to God’s. It has taken thousands of years for philosophers to understand the origin of time. Until the 17th century how time originated was a mystery. The theory of time originated in Ptolemy. Claudius Ptolemy, a Greek scientist, born about 87 AD, proposed that the earth was the centre of the universe because it was composed of heavier elements than any other planet or star. Ptolemy thought that all celestial objects, — including the planets, Sun, Moon, and stars, — orbited Earth. The earth, in the center of the universe, did not move at all.
This account of our universe was believed in by scientists for one thousand four hundred years. It is not found in the bible. The bible does not say that the earth is the centre of the universe. It is common knowledge that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. This belief was based on what scientists and everybody else saw with their eyes at least until the 17th century. But what they saw was an imaginary sun and an imaginary earth. They were deceived by thinking with their eyes that because they saw the sun rise on the eastern horizon and set on the western horizon that it was on a journey around the earth. They were deceived into thinking that the earth was flat and that it was the centre of the universe. They were deceived into thinking that the earth did not move at all. God did not deceive them. They deceived themselves by thinking only with their eyes. Seeing is not believing.
A thing moves only if it is free to move. A fixed object cannot move. The earth, moon and planets are not fixed bodies. They are surrounded by space. All of these bodies are in the form of spheres. There is nothing to prevent them moving in any direction, up, down, left, right, in circles or ovals, or rotating. That much is clear of bodies that are not fixed. Examine a billiard ball or a tennis ball and see how many directions they can move in. It is obvious however, that God placed the planets in fixed orbits. They moved in these orbits without any visible external force moving them. Therefore they were moved by an invisible force. Isaac Newton called this the first law of motion. However, the earth was not seen to move by scientists so they concluded that it was stationary and fixed in space. They did not see it move, they did not feel it move so they did not think it moved. Their reasoning was conditioned by their relative position in space, by imagining that their position was fixed in the sky. That conclusion was the result of thinking with their eyes and feelings, what they touched and what they felt. In other words they saw everything from one point of view. That is always a dangerous position to be in. Where there is uncertainty and doubt other guesswork is necessary. There is nothing wrong with guesswork based on possible scenarios of events. God does not contradict reason and it is God’s reasoning that we are trying to understand. We can, if that reason is an order and ordering of ideas that correspond with each other and explain things. As we have seen the earth, like all the planets and the sun, was a sphere in the sky or space. Now let us apply the logic of motion to a sphere. Unless hindered by an external force it can move in any direction. It can move forwards, backwards, to the left or to the right, obliquely or in circles, rotate or tilt in any and every direction. According to DAY 4 the purpose of the sun was to give light to the earth by a great ball of fire millions of miles of light and heat, composed of hydrogen and helium. How might God do this?
Let us imagine that you are the earth and the sun is the fire which you stand in front of to warm yourself. The firelight warms your body but not your back. It is a cold night and your back feels cold. So what do you do? Do you move the fire and place it behind you or do you turn around and let the fire warm your back? Of course you turn around! What would be the point of moving the fire around the room? By turning round like you the earth would be able to face the sun each day and face the stars each night and the time it would take to circle 360 degrees would be 24 hours. But the sun, if it had to orbit the earth and circle 360 degrees of space would take considerably longer than 24 hours. If, for instance, the earth as we now know takes 365 days plus a little to journey around the sun and if the sun took the same time to travel around the earth there would be no day or night. An intelligent God would never make a giant ball of fire do that if all he had to do was tell the earth to turn on its own axis. God set the sun in the sky. So let us go over this again. The lights were the sun, moon and stars. God had put them in place ‘for signs and seasons, for days and years.’ (Genesis 1: 14) The purpose then was for earth to have time divided into days and years as our calendars show. Without the cycle of night and day, spring, summer, autumn and winter, there would be no time at all, no springs, summers, autumns or winters. God created the sun, the moon and the stars and put them in place to create a planetary clock with precise timing and measurements of days, years and centuries.
How then did God do this? His design must have been intelligent and accurate and work just like a clock. Scientist knew thousands of years ago that time was divided into day and night, into months and years because they counted it. They created a sun dial to measure the time when the sun reached its zenith and then went westward to disappear. But why did they not see that the sun does not orbit the earth?
The Genesis account is God’s inspired Word. The relationship between the sun, the planets, the stars and the earth is night and day, time and motion logic and is stated clearly and intelligently by Genesis 1:14f. The model or hypothesis chosen by Greek scientists was based on ideas of weight and measurements, i.e. The weight of the earth’s elements, the suns’ orbit of the earth and measurements of distances between the earth and celestial bodies. Had they based their hypothesis (guesses) on night and day, time and motion they might have come to a very different hypothesis.
It is a certain truth that if you know what a thing is you also know what it isn’t. The fourth day is God’s creation of time and how time is divided into days and months and years. A clock, as you know ticks at 60 seconds a minute and that is what God’s planetary clock does, too. Let us accept that our solar system is a clock put together to tell us the time. It was made for us. It was not an accident or a maize of atoms. Then let us consider the logic of God’s clock. The earth is not flat but a sphere that rotates to face the sun during the day and the stars at night, and furthermore it orbits the sun to create the seasons of the year, spring, summer, autumn and winter.
SEA AND SKY
After the 24 hour clock of night and day and the seasons of the year were in place, God said, ‘Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.’
The writer of Genesis did not have the knowledge we have today. But God gave to him the stage of creation that was vital to all living beings from that time onwards. The sea is where our source of water and oxygen comes from. The atmospheric oxygen that we depend on as humans comes predominantly from the ocean. ‘According to National Geographic, about 70% of the oxygen in the atmosphere comes from marine plants and plant-like organisms. These ocean-living plants release molecular oxygen as a waste product of photosynthesis (as do most plants). In photosynthesis, plants capture sunlight and use its energy to split carbon dioxide and water, making sugar for itself and releasing oxygen as a by-product. The dominance of ocean life as earth's top oxygen producer makes sense when you consider that the majority of the earth is covered with ocean.’
Today’s science confirms that God’s science on the 5th day was the foreseeable transition that God made to make all biological life possible. The air that sea creatures and birds breath comes from the sea but no only oxygen but rain.
THE WATER CYCLE SEA AND RAIN
As the sun heats the sea the water evaporates. This steam goes up into the sky, where it turns into clouds. As more and more steam goes up the clouds get heavier and turn dark. When the clouds get too heavy to stay in the sky, they break up and fall back to the land as rain, hail or snow. This happens over and over again, so it's called the water cycle.
This transition from sea to rain is God’s incredible science to water the earth for food to grow and all creatures to drink.
GOD CREATED LIVING CREATURES
On the sixth and last day of God’s creation God made the animals many of which we can see today. We know them by their appearance and their families and just like human families they are recognisable not only by their appearance but their DNA. According to Genesis 1:24-25 he made the beasts of the field, and cattle and every other animal after its species, or as Genesis puts it ‘after its kind’. This is precisely what we see and observe in today’s world. Animals are known by their species and kind. The animals God created are so different in their shape, size, characteristics and morphology that there is no confusing the one for the other, or one family of animals from another family. Animals have a family tree and adapt to the conditions of existence as a family. The fertility and populations of animals depends on their reproduction and their is no evidence, however far back in antiquity animal trees go, to conjecture that animals are evolving rather than reproducing their own kind. In fact, day 6 is the epic moment when biological life was, after its own kind, capable of living and reproducing.
Whether animal or human species, population increases each year, except where environmental conditions, wars and natural disasters occur. If however, whether animal or human, we reduce the population of each species by the population data available from one year to the next, or one century to next, there is no doubt that this diminishes over time. The smallness of medieval cities and towns of which there are many records have small populations, very small compared with world towns and cities today. Add to this wars, disease, natural disasters and accidents, biological life could not have existed 12000 years ago. This is the mathematical proof ignored by some scientists who speak of man’s existence existing millions of years ago. The fact is that the world we know is the world that God created without its defects, in the recent biological past. Population is the critical test of whether animals and man, after their kind, existed within the time span that conditions for the survival of animal life and man’s (male and female) could possibly exist.
According to world population data statistics it is only in the last 251 years that a population boom has occurred. From1750 to 2100, according to UN figures, world population increased by 6-5 %, from 0.1% prior to 1800.
What is striking about this chart is that almost the entire action happened just very recently. Historical demographers estimate that around the year 1800 the world population was only around 1 billion people. This implies that on average the population grew very slowly over this long time from 10,000 BCE to 1700 (by 0.04% annually).’
If we consider this to be reliable evidence then prior to 1800 the global population was very slowly increasing. At this point if we decrease the estimated global population by the same rate at which it increases, the point in time when only our first parents existed must be reached, perhaps 10 to 12000 years ago, at the time when the world we live in now was ready to support life as we know it to be. This is not to say that in God’s time the sixth day was reached in solar time but in God’s eternal time.
CREATION OF MAN: MALE AND FEMALE
The final stage of God’s creation was man. That was God’s purpose all along, and everything that preceded man’s creation was for man, the highest and most noble being on earth. Did not God say, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’
Could there be anything more precise than this description of man? Man is exactly the ruler over the earth God created him to be. Man has become even more like God in his makeup than ever before. His knowledge of God’s science has changed the world in which we live. Man can now fly to the moon and beyond. He can contact anyone in the world from his office or home in a few seconds. He can perform surgical operations to cure disease. He has an immense knowledge of medicine. He can map the DNA of every male and female, adult of child. He is truly like God. Yet this likeness is not the same as God, for whatever man has discovered it was already put there by God’s creation in the first place. God’s omnipotence, omniscience, and love is beyond the imagination of every human being. So if we measure the knowledge and power of man it does not fall short of what God made him to be.
In every respect he is like God and is God with a small capital letter. God not only gave him instinct but reason, not only force but the execution of force, government, the rule of law, economics and the means of feeding the world; not only has God given him justice and love but a spiritual mind to know and love, to care for and protect other human beings. God gave him the freedom to choose between right and wrong, truth and fiction, wisdom and foolishness. Just how far man has fallen from God’s grace is visible for every eye to see in the modern world.
Genesis1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
