Jesus was a human being. St. Paul called him the last Adam for the first was made from the earth, whereas the last Adam, Jesus, was from heaven.[i] Nevertheless he was flesh of our flesh. He came in the flesh, born of the Virgin Mary, his mother. This is often referred to as the incarnation which means the embodiment of the Son of God, the Son of God becoming the Son of man, flesh of our flesh. This transformation was inaugural for Jesus did not cease to be the Son of God nor did he cease to be a man. The foundation of his nature was pure Spirit from heaven and pure flesh from Mary, who was blessed of God.[ii]
